• yarn cutters - try using a letter opener instead
• bead cases from Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby (similar to the one on Grumperina's blog ) 
• magnet boards from teacher supply stores
• Bass Pro Shops - fishing line "measurer" (we don't know the technical term) to measure yarn
• postal scale for weighing yarn
• plastic sleeves and binders for patterns
• Use a Food Saver to seal ziplock bags down the middle
• make your own row counter bead bracelet  
• Knitting in Plain English by Maggie Righetti
• Look at diaper bags, camera bags, or travel bags as alternatives to knitting bags
